ATHLOS Harmonised Datasets Version 1.0

NEW: The first version of harmonised datasets has already been uploaded onto Opal (https://opal.pssjd.org).

Access:
At present, only ATHLOS researchers can access Opal and view a detailed description of the variables at the website. So, for now, external researchers can only see an overview of the ATHLOS project and the studies included. If you are interested in any kind of collaboration, please contact us by sending an email to: athlos@pssjd.org.

Structure of the harmonised datasets:
A harmonised dataset for each study, population and wave has been built. Thus, a total of 145 harmonised datasets retrieved from 18 studies and 45 cohorts have been created:

However, some variables (in red) have not been harmonised yet, and therefore, these harmonised datasets have missing values in those variables. Moreover, variables from the "social environment" domain are still being evaluated. We expect to have completed all the variables from harmonised datasets before next October. All changes will be reported in the "news" section from this website.

It should be noted that not all variables were suitable for harmonisation since in some studies, populations or waves they could not be gathered from the original datasets. At this website, you can check which variables have been harmonised and which not.

It should also be noted that each longitudinal study organises the datasets between waves according to the study owner’s decisions. Accordingly, we found heterogeneity in the sample sizes across waves due to deaths and dropouts. Some studies reported deaths in a separate dataset whereas other studies kept the recent deaths in that wave, kept deaths and dropout information or did not include any information on this matter on account of sensitive information. Therefore, we decided to keep the same sample size in all waves by creating the variable “living status”, specifying whether an individual is alive, dead or just dropout without knowledge of his/her status. For those studies with refreshment in later waves, the sample size is enlarged in accordance with the new entries.
